Our Stories In Vivid Color aims to increase representation in production, change norms around gender and racial equity, and transform how America sees, hears, and imagines youth of color. Our creative team of expert filmmakers from BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities mirrors the diversity of our on-screen storytellers and collaborators. We are committed to inclusive hiring practices across a spectrum of race, ethnicity, ability, gender identity, and more.
Our production team has also adapted to the unique challenges, opportunities, and needs of our youth partners in light of COVID-19. Our Stories In Vivid Color’s initial interviews were filmed on location in late 2019 – early 2020. We have since integrated video conferencing applications and first-person filmmaking practices. Given the uncertainty of school and work opportunities for our young cast, we have expanded our creative incubator, By and For, to amplify their creative projects and facilitate their participation in the creative economy. Mobile filmmaking kits and workshops provide our cast members the equipment and skills to document their creativity and activism for this series and allows them to continue making films in the future.
